About Me

My photo
I just treated myself to a digital SLR camera. Now I can mess around with photography to my heart's content. My goal is to shoot at least a small series every day and to write a few paragraphs on whatever comes to mind at the end of the day when I look at them. This is the result.

Day 1: Through the Window

Light on Oaks
I don't find the area where I live very attractive. The natural landscape is nice, but it's not mountains or desert or wild coastline. And planning has been virtually nonexistent, so the developed landscape is one of strip malls, McMansions, apartment buildings and townhouse complexes crammed together willy-nilly. We do have a lot of stormwater ponds, so at least we can count on a few wild elements here and there.

All of that said, I love the view from the reading corner in my bedroom. Three oaks and a crepe myrtle are tall enough that I have direct line-of-sight into their canopy. I love the bare branches in winter (especially when we get the rare snow), the buds in spring, the light through the full foliage in summer (when it's way too hot and humid to be outside), and the mild colors of autumn.

Today I enjoyed the morning light in the upper branches while watching my grandson.
